Without detracting from the importance of people in organizations, it is important to recognize the significance of a structure. Organisations that do not continuously reinvent themselves, fall by the wayside because they have structures that are irrelevant and outdated, with too many levels of delay masquerading as levels of decision making, unclear reporting structures and structure driven issues of under-performance, conflict of interest and lack of ownership. Such structures often kill initiative, the quality that helps create successful organizations.
